A resort town on the Bay of Biscay in Spain’s mountainous Basque Country. We stayed outside the city on 24 beautifully manicured acres in the Hotel Usategieta. It is quality, peaceful and perfect.
Usategieta was once a working farm and still maintains a garden for vegetables that are used in the on site restaurant. It is S ituated in the middle of nature, between Jaizkibel mountain and Agia National Park.
This area is well known for Basque cuisine and particularly good eating. One of the foodie treasures here is it’s famous pintxos. These culinary bites were originally a slice of baguette bread piled high with food of any kind. To hold it in place a cocktail stick or ‘pintxo’ was used. The cardinal rule of pintxo-bar dining is to never stop moving.
Zurriola Beach, is one of the liveliest and most popular beaches in San Sebastián. It has been a favorite destination with surfers and young active people the world over. On Zurriola you can find surf courses and championships, volleyball, football matches or people playing beach-tennis. Today wasn’t a great indicator of this since it was a sweater day for me, I suppose it was a bit cool for others as well.
