Bosporus Strait & Sicily’s Mount Etna

The Bosporus Strait is one of the worlds most significant waterways. Connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, it forms part of the continental boundary between Europe and Asia.

The strait separates Asian Turkey from European Turkey.

Mount Etna, or Mongibello meaning ‘beautiful mountain’ in Italian, is one of the worlds most active volcanoes. It has the longest documented eruption history of any volcano in the world with lava flows dating back to 1500 B.C.P1010462Mount Etna puffing at usLocated near the east coast of the island of Sicily, it is 10,900 feet high and the tallest mountain in Italy south of the Alps. The Mediterranean waters around this volcano are the most placid waters imaginable. There was an eerie stillness and an illusion of glass spread before us, as we were reminded by the puffs of smoke rising from a top vent and pungent sulfur smell of its true destructive power.
